Panelling is up!

Because of the shape of the building with its big cantilever, and the existing building made with dark brick, we needed a very bright exterior that would bring the much needed light into the garden.
The panelling consists of vertical anodised aluminium profiles, inside of which coloured panes are nested. The colour is never seen directly, it is perceived through the reflection in the profile, creating an undulating vibrancy. The perception changes as one moves around it, as the colour and the shades shift with the light.
The whole concept has been developed with Jeanine Cohen who is based in Brussels. First, we worked together to figure out what were the right shapes and the appropriate depth of the profiles and on the more technical side of things, what was the composition of the exterior skin, durability, how to hold it all together.
Once these first decisions were taken, we made a prototype with folded aluminium to decide the right colours. Jeanine tested many combinations, and she finally settled for 4 colours (yellow, melon, orange and light blue). She also decided on the distribution of these colours in the different sides of the building, achieving a soft gradient with the hues selected that wraps the building.
In May 2006, Bajart started building the extension of the Museum. And starting on August 2007, CRC is in charge of finishing the outer skin.
