The Museum of Photography: Phase 4
To realize this study, l’Escaut analysed the surroundings of the Museum on the basis of various aspects that were superposed to reflect the complexity of the site :
- historical analysis of the ‘place des Essarts’ and of the ‘place communale’
- social and economic dynamics
- cartography of landscapes, residential complexes, poles of social dynamics, equipments and trades
- study for the destination of the squares, roads and public transports
- reflection concerning the area to renovate in terms of interfaces (public, semi-public and private) and topography (at the top of the height of Paul Pastur avenue, the plateau is slightly inclined to the south)
This in-depth study was translated into proposals aiming at raising a new landscape for the district. This urban landscape is a continuation of the natural presence of the park of the Museum and of the existing qualities of the surrounding backyards. These reinterpret the relationships between the Museum and the neighbouring equipments and existing public spaces. The museum means a new motor for the social and economic dynamics of the district.
